- Fewer crowds compared to the main EBC trail
- Breathtaking 360° mountain panoramas from each pass
- Authentic cultural encounters in ancient Sherpa villages
The Ultimate Himalayan Challenge
1. Conquer Three Iconic High Passes
This epic trek is defined by the crossing of three legendary Himalayan passes—each with its own thrill and beauty:
- Kongma La (5,535m) – The highest and most demanding pass, with steep ascents and jaw-dropping views over the mighty Khumbu Glacier.
- Cho La (5,420m) – A dramatic crossing over glacial terrain that requires care and confidence, opening into the spectacular Gokyo Valley.
- Renjo La (5,360m) – Arguably the most scenic of them all, this pass offers sweeping views of Everest, Lhotse, and the shimmering turquoise lakes of Gokyo.
2. Stand at the Foot of Everest
No journey in the Khumbu is complete without paying homage to the world’s tallest mountain:
- Everest Base Camp (5,364m) – Step into the heart of mountaineering legend, where climbers prepare for their summit dreams.
- Kala Patthar (5,545m) – The ultimate viewpoint for sunrise over Everest, with panoramic vistas of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks.
3. Discover Gokyo Lakes & Gokyo Ri
One of the trek’s hidden gems, the Gokyo Valley is a peaceful sanctuary with its chain of crystal-clear glacial lakes, sacred in the Buddhist tradition. A climb to Gokyo Ri (5,357m) offers one of the most awe-inspiring views in the Himalayas—rivaling even Kala Patthar—featuring Everest, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.
4. Walk the Path Less Traveled
What sets this route apart is its quieter, more remote trails through valleys like Chhukung, Dzongla, and Thame. Along the way, you’ll experience:
- Genuine Sherpa hospitality in charming, stone-built villages
- Visits to sacred Buddhist monasteries, including the iconic Tengboche Monastery
- Wild, untamed landscapes that feel far removed from the typical trekking crowds
Best Time to Trek
- Spring (March-May) – Stable weather, blooming rhododendrons, clear skies.
- Autumn (September-November) – Best visibility, cool temperatures, peak trekking season.
- Winter (December-February) – Very cold but possible for experienced trekkers.
- Monsoon (June-August) – Not recommended due to rain and flight delays.
The trek begins with a dramatic 35-minute mountain flight to Lukla, landing at one of the world’s most thrilling airports. This flight offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and sets the tone for the epic adventure ahead.
Nestled at 3,440 meters, Namche Bazaar is the cultural and commercial heart of the Khumbu region. It’s a lively Sherpa town filled with colorful markets, bakeries, cafés, museums, and stunning mountain views.
Perched at 3,860 meters, Tengboche Monastery is the most famous Buddhist monastery in the Everest region. Surrounded by stunning peaks like Ama Dablam and Everest, it offers a peaceful atmosphere and a chance to observe local Buddhist traditions.
Located in the high-altitude Gokyo Valley, these turquoise glacial lakes are among the most beautiful sights in the Himalayas. Sacred to Sherpas, the lakes are surrounded by snow-capped peaks, making this a peaceful and awe-inspiring place to explore.
A pre-dawn hike to Kala Patthar rewards trekkers with the most iconic panoramic view of Mount Everest. At 5,545 meters, it's the highest point many trekkers reach and offers unforgettable sunrise views over the Everest massif.
One of the three high passes on the trek, Cho La (5,420m) involves a steep and icy ascent with glacier crossings. Though physically demanding, the experience is incredibly rewarding with majestic views and a true sense of achievement.
Throughout the trek, you’ll pass through traditional Sherpa villages like Thame, Marulung, and Chhukung. These lesser-traveled trails offer a more authentic experience of Himalayan culture, with quiet landscapes and rich spiritual heritage untouched by modern development.
Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our team and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, you'll receive a detailed trek briefing and meet your guide to discuss the adventure ahead.
Spend the day preparing for the trek. We’ll check your gear, assist with last-minute shopping, and process necessary permits like the Sagarmatha National Park Entry and TIMS card. If time permits, enjoy optional sightseeing at iconic cultural sites like Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) or Boudhanath Stupa. Final trek briefing will be held in the evening.
Take a scenic 35-minute flight to Lukla, famous for its dramatic mountain airport. Begin your trek with a gentle descent through charming villages and pine forests along the Dudh Koshi River, reaching Phakding after about 3–4 hours of trekking.
Today’s trail crosses several suspension bridges and passes through beautiful forests. Enter Sagarmatha National Park and begin a steep ascent towards Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital. The hike is demanding but rewarding, with your first distant views of Mount Everest.
Spend a day acclimatizing to the altitude. You may take an optional hike to Everest View Hotel for sweeping views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. Visit the Sherpa Culture Museum or stroll through the local market and cafés.
The trail leads uphill and downhill through forests and small villages with constant views of snow-capped peaks. Arrive at Tengboche, known for its grand Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual heart of the Khumbu region, surrounded by panoramic Himalayan scenery.
Descend through rhododendron forests and cross the Imja Khola river. Continue climbing steadily to reach the wide, open Imja Valley, finally arriving in Dingboche, a beautiful Sherpa village nestled below Ama Dablam and other towering peaks.
Use this second acclimatization day to hike up to Nagarjun Hill (5,100m). This steep climb helps your body adjust to higher elevations and offers panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Ama Dablam. Return to Dingboche for rest and preparation.
It’s a short and gradual trek to Chhukung, surrounded by glacial valleys. In the afternoon, take a challenging hike up Chhukung Ri, offering breathtaking 360° views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and the surrounding range.
One of the most demanding days, begin early to cross Kongma La, the highest of the three passes. The trail is steep and rocky but rewards you with spectacular views of the Khumbu Glacier, Nuptse, and the Everest range. Descend to the small settlement of Lobuche.
Follow the rocky moraine trail to Gorak Shep, then continue your epic journey to Everest Base Camp. Walk along the edge of the Khumbu Glacier until you reach the legendary site where climbers prepare for Everest expeditions. Return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Before sunrise, hike up to Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint for Mount Everest. After soaking in the awe-inspiring panorama, descend to Gorak Shep, have breakfast, and continue to Dzongla, a peaceful spot below the Cho La Pass.
Begin early for a tough but exhilarating trek across the icy Cho La Pass. The trail includes glacier crossings and steep rocky sections. After the pass, descend into the stunning Gokyo Valley, known for its beautiful blue lakes.
Hike to the top of Gokyo Ri early in the morning for sunrise views of Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the surrounding peaks. Spend the rest of the day exploring the sacred Gokyo Lakes, a peaceful and spiritual area revered by the Sherpas.
Cross the final high pass, Renjo La, considered the most scenic. Enjoy unforgettable views of the Everest range reflected in Gokyo’s lakes. Descend gradually to Marulung, a quiet, less-visited village on ancient trade routes.
Follow a scenic trail through the remote village of Thame, home to famous mountaineers and one of the oldest monasteries in the region. Continue along traditional Sherpa paths back to Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy one last night in the mountains.
Make your final descent through the lush Dudh Koshi valley, crossing familiar suspension bridges and charming Sherpa villages. Arrive in Lukla, where you'll celebrate the completion of your incredible trek with your team. Depending on flight schedules and weather, board a scenic flight back to Kathmandu the same day. Once in the city, enjoy some well-earned rest, souvenir shopping, or a final celebratory dinner.
